On the Market / Enjoy the seasons on the Fairfield coast

FAIRFIELD — Autumn has descended on New England although no one would know it with the unseasonably warm temperatures this region has experienced. That warmer weather is great news especially for those who live along Fairfield’s waterfront because they are enjoying a prolonged summer season.

Even when the weather is more appropriate for the time of year the local residents who live on the water can still enjoy the beautiful views of Long Island Sound. The cream-colored cedar shingle colonial house at 334 Pine Creek Ave. has attractive views of Pine Creek, on which it sits, as well as the Sound from many of its nine rooms. The owners enjoy beautiful sunsets over Beachside Avenue in Westport from their vantage point.

“This exceptional waterfront residence creates the perfect haven for water lovers and boaters. Boating, swimming, sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding are only steps away,” the listing agent said. But because of the location of this house its residents are not limited to water sports. It is within a comfortable walking distance to a number of recreational venues, including two beaches, the Carl Dickman Par 3 Golf Course, Pine Creek Playground, Sullivan Field, Kiwanis Field, Fairfield tennis courts and Old Dam Road Marsh Open Space. The latter has hiking trails.

This 5,688-square-foot house on a cul-de-sac in Fairfield’s beach neighborhood enjoys its own dock/mooring, an attached guest cottage, and private neighborhood beach. The dock is wide enough that the owner has invited friends over for waterside yoga classes.

The house was originally built in 1924 and was completely rebuilt in 2014. No doubt the renovation project took into mind the extensive damage this area of town suffered during Hurricane Sandy. Then again, this house did not sustain damage in that or any other storm. The house and others on the street are tucked away in a protected inlet at the mouth of Long Island Sound behind Fairfield Beach Road.

Although it is not truly an “upside down” house, the main living level is on the second floor. There are also two bedrooms on that level. The master suite occupies the entire third floor, and on the ground level there is a family room and other bedrooms. The guest cottage has a sitting room, bedroom, full bathroom, and a wood deck. The house sits on a property of more than a third of an acre. It features more parking than many houses have near the beach. It has a detached two-car garage and a long crushed stone driveway.

In the main house the second floor has an open floor plan with the living room, dining room and kitchen flowing one into the other. The living room has a fireplace. Between the living and dining rooms there is a door to the sizable, wrap-around balcony/Trex deck. The dining room and the kitchen have separate sets of sliding doors to this deck, which has stairs down to the grassy level lawn. A bluestone path leads to the dock.

The kitchen features a large center island topped with black granite, as are the perimeter counters. It also has a coffered ceiling, Carrera marble backsplash, and double stainless sinks. Appliances include Electrolux Icon double wall ovens and a Viking Professional six-burner range. In the wing of this floor with the two bedrooms there is also a full bath and a laundry room.

On the third floor the master suite features a sitting room, a door to a private balcony, built-in bookshelves on either side of the bed, and an alcove with a window seat. There is also a walk-in closet with windows that is large enough to serve as an office.

On the ground level there is a garden room with counter space, cabinets, and a sink. On this level the foyer is quite spacious, enough so to also serve as usable living space. The family room has a floor-to-ceiling stone wall that houses a fireplace. It also has a casual dining area with French doors to the yard, and a game or play room area. In addition to the bedroom in the cottage there is another bedroom on this level. Another room, currently used as an exercise room, has a fireplace. An office has built-in shelving.
