Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras teaming with Cirque de la Symphonie at Klein

Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, formerly known as Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, is welcoming Cirque de la Symphonie for two performances. The 100-piece Principal Orchestra returns to Bridgeport’s Klein Memorial Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 29 and March 1, to accompany the aerialists, contortionists, jesters, dancers, and strongmen of the Athens, Georgia-based touring troupe.

The collaboration is a first of its kind for GCTYO. “The Cirque program is challenging because of the sheer amount of music the orchestra needs to prepare and the overall difficulty level of many of the pieces,” said Chris Hisey, Music Director and Principal Orchestra Conductor.

Cirque de la Symphonie features world-renowned performers, including seven-time consecutive National Champion and Female Olympic Athlete of the Year Christine Van Loo. For over a decade, the acrobatic troupe has performed alongside more than 100 professional symphony orchestras across the world, including the Boston Pops, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Houston Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony, with its GCTYO debut marking only the second time it has partnered with an all-youth ensemble.
