FAIRFIELD — The gun that a delivery driver accidentally shot himself with Tuesday night was unregistered, police said Thursday.
“At this point, the gun was not registered and the victim is not permitted to carry,” Lt. Robert Kalamaras said.
But whether the delivery driver, a 24-year-old Trumbull man who’s identity has not yet been released by police, will face any charges is not clear yet. As of Thursday, the man is still in the intensive care unit of St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Kalamaras said.
He was rushed to the hospital shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday from his place of employment, Wings Over Fairfield. Kalamaras said the Trumbull man accidentally shot himself in the chest with a revolver.
Another employee called 911 and said a delivery driver of the restaurant had been shot behind the building. When officers got there, they found the 24-year-old lying on his back in the rear hallway of the business.
“There are no charges that could be levied against the business owner at this time,” Kalamaras said Thursday.
He said the shooting was self-inflicted and accidental.
“A preliminary investigation and evidence recovered at the scene revealed that this is an isolated incident and that there is no public threat,” Kalamaras said Wednesday.
