For the first time, New Fairfield Parks and Recreation is hosting an Illuminated Boat Parade Friday night with a raindate on Saturday.
Boats are expected to be decked out in lights and decorations and will parade past several points on Candlewood Lake beginning at 8:45 p.m. Those viewing spots include Spear Point, Chatteron Marina, Knollcrest, the state boat launch, New Fairfield Town Park and ending at Candlewood Isle, according to i95Rock.
It is expected to go until 9:30 p.m., according to the Facebook event posting.
About 30 boats have already signed up and the registration is still open. Those interested in participating must 203-312-5633. It is free to participate and watch the parade, according to the Parks and Recreation Department.
The public is encouraged to park in the lots behind Town Hall and Memorial Field, at 4 Brush Hill Road. Shuttles will then bring viewers to the town park beginning at 7 p.m. to watch the parade. The park can accommodate about 1,000 spectators, but parking is limited there so only New Fairfield residents can park at the beach.
People can also watch the parade from their own boats on the lake, but must make sure they don’t exceed their vehicles occupancy limit, have life vests for each passenger with children wearing those vests, have working lights and can’t anchor in the parade route.
