Lowe: ‘No plan right now’ to reopen Sherman’s town hall

SHERMAN — Residents should not expect Mallory Town Hall to open back up to the public anytime soon.

“I know that I had said earlier that there was a chance that we might open it up to the public on a limited basis, but I don’t think that’s going to happen,” First Selectman Don Lowe said during the Board of Selectmen’s meeting Thursday evening.

The municipal building on Route 39 has been closed to the public since March due to novel coronavirus concerns, with services being provided via phone and email.

Lowe said he recently spoke with town hall employees, and they felt they were “serving the public as well as we ever did under the circumstances.”

“We feel like all the services are being done, so there is no plan right now to open up town hall to the public,” he said.

There have been 14 COVID-19 cases in Sherman and two related deaths, but the town hasn’t had a new case in six weeks, Lowe said Friday.
