New Milford will host its first Patriots’ Day event at noon on April 20 on the Green.
The free event will include the 6th Connecticut Regiment doing drills, bagpipe performances, a flag ceremony, a regiment salute and an honorary patriot of the year award presentation. Representatives from the Daughters, Sons, and Children of the American Revolution organizations will also be there and refreshments will be served.
Patriots’ Day was created to commemorate the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which happened on April 19, 1775 during the American Revolutionary War. It is considered a state holiday in several places, including Massachusetts, which celebrates in on the third Monday in April.
