New Milford Community Emergency Response Team will hold an open house at their new headquarters at John Pettibone Community Center March 24 from 1 to 4 p.m.
CERT members will be on hand to meet guests and discuss the types of training CERT provides, as well as showcase the new space.
CERT (www.newmilfordcert.com) is a critical program in the effort to engage everyone in America in making their communities safer, more prepared, and more resilient when incidents occur.
In New Milford, CERT’s function is to open and operate shelters in the event that one is needed, as well as support emergency services when asked.
CERT members are trained in many areas, including sheltering, first aid, triage, emergency, search and rescue, terrorism, among other things.
The group meets once a month and undergoes regular training and refresher courses.
CERT training is free and all are welcome.
New member training for the spring will begin in early April.
