Garden club to hold information fair

The Roxbury-Bridgewater Garden Club is celebrating its centennial year.

The club will host an information fair April 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roxbury Town Hall on Route 67.

The theme is preservation, conservation and community participation.

Protect our Pollinators will highlight pesticide-free strategies to support pollinator populations and their habitats, Mike Rice Bees will describe hive structure, the Audubon Center Bent of the River will provide information on how to make your yard more bird friendly, Mad Gardeners will identify local invasive plants, Riverbank Farm will explain backyard composting, Maple Bank Farm will feature heirloom apples and UConn master gardeners will emphasize the importance of native plants and wildflowers.

Other participating organizations will include the Roxbury Land Trust, the Bridgewater Land Trust, Sunny Valley Preserve, the Roxbury Conservation Commission, Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust and the Northwest Conservation District.

The Garden Club exhibit will feature the club’s history, youth projects at Burnham and Booth Free schools and winter sowing.

Packets of seeds to help the bees, birds and butterflies will be available.

Refreshments will be served.
