Murder suspect’s New Milford threatening case pushed to December

TORRINGTON — The plea hearing of a Bethel man accused of threatening two New Milford men with a gun after allegedly killing his own brother last year has been continued once again — this time to Dec. 17.

Matthew O’Dell, 40, was charged with first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, disorderly conduct, illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence and attempt to commit second-degree larceny following a Nov. 11 incident in New Milford.

O’Dell is also facing a murder charge out of Bethel, where police say he fatally shot his 42-year-old brother at the home they shared with their mother on Apollo Road.

Hours before the body was discovered, O’Dell was arrested in New Milford after police say he threatened the two men with the gun and tried to steal a truck belonging to one of them in a Railroad Street parking lot.

The New Milford men — both in their 60s — fought and subdued O’Dell, who was armed with a small black handgun, according to police.

O’Dell is being held at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield and represented by attorney Alexandra Georgieva in state Superior Court in Torrington.
